Is the structure still sound after the storm?

Offshore wind turbines stand on steel jacket foundations that carry wind and wave loads for decades. My work uses vibration data to tell whether a foundation is damaged and where, and to estimate how the structure moves at points that carry no sensor.

WORK // 02

  1. W-01.1 IN PROGRESS

    Damage identification of jacket foundations

A finite element model of a jacket-supported turbine generates vibration responses for intact and damaged conditions. Machine-learning models trained on features from modal analysis identify the damage, and the study compares how different sensor layouts affect the result.

  2. W-01.2 IN PROGRESS

    Response reconstruction at unmeasured points

A neural network estimates the vibration at points of the structure without sensors, from wind data and a single reference sensor.
